How Google Sitemap could help your website to list in Google Search?

Have you lost your website listing in Google Search Engine?

Does few of you website pages are not getting listed in Google?

The “site:www.yoursite.com” doesn’t give any result?

Here is cool solution from Google. Google Sitemaps (Beta) is very easy to configure and manage tool, which tells Googlebot (Google software to crawl the web for its search engine listing) about the pages in your website to be indexed.

Below are the simple steps to configure the Google Sitemaps for you website:

1.       Register with Google Sitemap:

A.       Go to Website:

https://www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount?service=sitemaps”

B.       Provide the required information and create a Google Sitemap account.

Note: You could submit Google Sitemaps without registering to Google. But registering provides tracking mechanism, which is very useful.

2.       Creating a Sitemap (XML File):

You could create the sitemap in two ways:

1.       Use the 3rd Party Tools: The third party tolls are very easy web based or stand alone program. These programs render to your website and generate the sitemap for you.

Example:

Go to: http://www.xml-sitemaps.com and follow 4 simple steps.

Note: You could use the Google recommended sitemap creation tools at: http://code.google.com/sm_thirdparty.html

2.       Do it yourself:

With the little knowledge of XML format, you could create the sitemap for your website by yourself.

Here are the steps:

3.       Uploading the Sitemap:

Upload your Sitemap to your site in the highest level directory you want search engines to crawl.

Example:

Suppose your website is www.example.com  and physical location of your website content is “/example.com/”.

You should upload the sitemap file i.e. example-sitemap.xml to the server at “/example.com/example-sitemap.xml”

Note: Once you upload the sitemap file on server, don’t forget to check it in your browser.

                                                i.e. http://www.example.com/example-sitemap.xml

4.       Submitting the above sitemap to Google:

                A. Go to https://www.google.com/webmasters/sitemaps

                B. Login through the ID created in first step.

                C. Click on ‘Add a Sitemap’.

                D. Enter your Sitemap URL. (i.e. http://www.example.com/example-sitemap.xml) and submit it

                Now you are all set.

Keep checking, modifying and resubmitting the sitemap to Google every time you update your website.
